Williamson impressed at Raith Rovers last season

The Scotland Under-21 international is believed to be due to travel to the City of Discovery over the weekend and complete a move alongside Gary Bowyer by the middle of next week as he seeks to get regular playing time with a year remaining on his current Ibrox. OK.

Williamson has enjoyed a strong end to the season at Stark’s Park, scoring twice in his last three games after returning from a foot injury suffered on international duty in March.

The midfielder also impressed on loan the previous season when he played a pivotal role in keeping Dick Campbell’s Arbroath side in the Championship in his first taste of men’s football.

It is understood the midfielder has since undergone surgery in the summer in order to put his injury troubles behind him after being left at home following the first-team’s pre-season training camp in the Algarve.

We understand there has been a lot of interest in Williamson over the summer, with Championship sides like Partick Thistle and League’s One and Two south of Fleetwood and Hartlepool.

But it will be Dens Park that will host the crucial next steps in the midfield’s development.

Meanwhile, Rangers completed their second signing of the summer as Antonio Colak was finally announced after signing a three-year contract worth around £2million.

The Croatian striker has the full backing of Rangers boss Giovanni Van Bronkchorst, who believes his man has what it takes to be a resounding success in the SPFL Premiership.

The Ibrox board are looking to act quickly to get more bodies through the door as they hope to convince Welsh midfielder Tom Lawrence to make a free transfer north of the border following his release from County from Derby.

The 28-year-old captain, The Ram’s, under Wayne Rooney and Gio’s men, face fierce competition to sign the 11-goal midfielder with Sheffield United also in the running for a deal.

We confirmed earlier that Lawrence IS a target for the Ibrox side and he now looks set to join the club, who are preparing to face Sunderland in pre-season action on Saturday.
