MSP welcomes increased funding for bus services in Lanarkshire

East Kilbride MSP, Collette Stevenson, welcomed a funding boost to help protect bus services.

The Scottish Government has committed £93.5m from the 2022/23 budget to support bus operators, due to changing travel patterns during the pandemic restrictions.

It is also about sustaining services while passenger numbers recover from the pandemic.

Ms Stevenson said the easing of COVID restrictions meant passenger numbers were starting to pick up on East Kilbride services.

She told Lanarkshire Live: “I am delighted to see the Scottish Government providing strong support for Scottish bus services.

“Committing nearly £94m for 2022/23 gives financial security to businesses and passengers, and ensures our communities can stay connected through vital local bus connections.

“Our travel options are playing a crucial role in Scotland’s transition to Net Zero.

“This grant is an important step in protecting sustainable travel, reducing car use and supporting connected communities across Scotland.”
