Man Utd and Tottenham arrivals boost Brighton over renowned summer goals

Brighton boss Graham Potter is hoping the transfer merry-go-round turns in his favor to land both Manchester United’s Dan James and Tottenham star Joe Rodon this summer.

The Seagulls chief is looking to build on a season that saw his side finish in 16th place in the Premier League. They finished 13 points above 18th Fulham after a strong start in 2021. The South Coast team have won three and drawn three from January 16, keeping them away from the drop zone.

But the challenge now is to push and try to move to the middle of the table. With that in mind, Potter is actively looking for new recruits and has turned his attention to a few players he knows well, according to The sun.

James, 23, played for the Amex boss in Swansea City, making 38 appearances in all competitions in 2018-19. This saw him move to Old Trafford with the Red Devils paying £ 15million to the Welsh outfit for the youngster.

Things started off promisingly for the quick winger, with 33 top-flight appearances in his debut season at United. But his playing time decreased in 2020-2021 and the wide man has only been seen 15 times in the league, with 11 starts.

He played an important role when Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s side reached the Europa League final. But the imminent arrival of Jadon Sancho seems to have dropped it lower in the Dream Theater pecking order.

Potter is hoping to take advantage of this and would love the Welsh international in his Brighton books.

The white exit could see Rodon arriving

Seagulls cap Ben Blanc has been heavily linked to a move to Arsenal. On Sunday it was announced that he would reject any other club to secure a transfer to the Emirates.

If that happened, it would free up funds for the 46-year-old to become a defender Rodon. The 23-year-old joined Spurs from Swansea in October 2020.

But he failed to clinch a regular first-team spot, with just eight starts in 12 league appearances last season. And, with Nuno Espirito Santo replacing Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, playing time could be hard to come by.

Potter will seek to use this as leverage to land his man and find the Elder Swan. It is believed that Swansea would like to sign the duo on permanent deals.

But they would also be open to loans if the respective clubs are unwilling to play ball. The fact that the couple know Potter well should help smooth out the transfers offered during the offseason.

However, other clubs may also enter the scene, with Linked to Leicester City, and Brighton is therefore seeking to act quickly.
