Ipswich Town: Macauley Bonne signs QPR loan

Ipswich Town has signed striker Macauley Bonne on a one-season loan from the QPR Championship club.

The 25-year-old former Colchester, Leyton Orient and Charlton frontman – who can also play wide – joined the Rs in a £ 2million deal last October but has been widely used as impact substitute during his first campaign at Loftus Road.

Bonne was born in Ipswich and attended Chantry High School. He started at the Blues academy before being released at the age of 14. A brief stint at Norwich academy followed before joining the Colchester youth team.

He scored 15 goals in 25 starts and 59 side outings as a young U. player. After the Essex club were relegated from League One in 2016, Bonne had short National League loan spells with Lincoln. City and Woking before joining the Leyton Orient National League team in the summer of 2017.

The O’s prolific form – 25 goals in 17/18 and 24 goals in 18/19 – has earned him a £ 200,000 transfer to newly promoted Championship club Charlton. The Addicks were relegated straight to League One, but Bonne’s 11 goals for a struggling team saw QPR call.

However, with two years remaining on his contract, he was made available by manager Mark Warburton after scoring three goals in nine starts and 26 under-appearances for the West London club as he finished ninth in the championship.

Town has done business with QPR before this summer, with midfielder Andre Dozzell moving to Loftus Road after his £ 1million buyout clause was triggered.

Bonne becomes the Summer Blues’ fourth signing after the arrivals of right-side specialist Wes Burns (Fleetwood, undisclosed), midfielder Lee Evans (Wigan, free) and box-to-box midfielder Rekeem Harper (West Brom, £ 500,000).
