The duration of the ongoing Amar Ekushey Book Fair, which was due to end on February 28, has been extended until March 17, Minister of State for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid said today.

“The government took the decision due to the improving Covid situation. Publishers and writers also demanded an extension of the book fair,” he said during a press briefing at the Secretariat. .

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave his approval to extend the duration of the book fair this morning, Khalid said.

“We are checking whether the health guidelines are being followed correctly at the book fair and there is a huge crowd at the fair,” he added.

On February 9, KM Khalid said that if the Covid-19 situation improves, the government will consider extending the Ekushey Book Fair 2022.

The Amar Ekushey Book Fair started on February 15.
