Cameron Archer at Rangers dealt blow as Preston eyes another loan move and Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa intentions explained

The Preston owner’s comments may have cast doubt on Rangers’ chances of landing Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer.

Reports have linked the 19-year-old with a loan move alongside Giovanni van Bronckhorst for the upcoming season.

The England Under-21 star spent last season on loan with North End in the Championship, scoring seven goals.

Peter Risdale appeared on a fan podcast and was asked about his team’s chances of getting Archer back.

Although they are hopeful, there should be plenty of competition and Steven Gerrard would like to take a look at the player in pre-season before a decision is made on his future.

Risdale told The Finney podcast: “We asked Aston Villa the question.

“We made it clear that, if he was available on loan, we would match any other deal in the Championship to get him back and they just said ‘we’ll be back for pre-season and take a position subject to what recruitment they do. so we don’t know.

“We are planning the team without him, but giving him a place in the team and see what happens.”
