Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Jamie Dobie is “buzzing” with excitement at the prospect of a move to Bay of Plenty.
The 21-year-old Scotland international has joined New Zealand’s Provincial National Championship squad on a short-term loan to gain more experience in the country’s top club competition.
Dobie traveled to New Zealand late last week and will return to Scotstoun for the start of the URC season.
He told glasgowwarriors.org: “I’m looking forward to the chance to experience a new environment and a new style of play with Bay of Plenty.
“Opportunities like this don’t come around very often and it was a no-brainer when Glasgow and Scotland suggested I spend the summer in New Zealand.
“I have only ever been involved in the Scottish rugby journey so having the chance to experience a new culture, new ideas and a different approach to the game whilst developing my skills is very exciting.
“I’m looking forward to having some playing time over the summer – which I think will help me tremendously and get me back on track when I return for the URC season.”
Warriors offensive coach Nigel Carolan said, “It’s great for young players like Jamie to have experiences like this.
“The NPC is a quality league and will expose Jamie to a new style of rugby, allow him to develop his game and experience rugby in a different environment.
“We will be monitoring his progress closely and look forward to welcoming him back for our next campaign.”
